Updates from the 40th Ward Office

Firstly, following our development town hall last month, we've launched a redesigned Neighborhood Development page. The new page includes highlighted major projects that you can click on for more details and updates as well as a full map of all of the city's infrastructure projects we're expecting for this year including repairs and new infrastructure installations we're funding with our menu money budget, our two major streetscape projects on Lawrence and Lincoln, and the whopping 8 major street resurfacings CDOT has initiated for this year in parts of our Ward including Western, California, Damen, Ravenswood, Ashland, Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, and Pratt. We know many of these projects, especially the street resurfacings, will affect neighborhood traffic so we will be sharing updates on these projects on our website and in our newsletter as we receive them from CDOT and the contractors.

Submissions are now open for our People's Budget! Each year we ask neighbors to submit ideas on how we should spend $1 million of our menu infrastructure funds. If there's something that needs to be repaired, neighbors can submit requests to bit.ly/40FIXIT. We are also always looking for exciting new special project ideas. A special project must count as a permanent infrastructure installation on City property (Parks, Schools, Libraries, Streets or Public Way) to authorize our funding. In the past we've funded new park equipment, major pedestrian safety infrastructure, and murals as Special Projects, and we have a few projects in progress after approval from our People's Budget last year. You can read through the requirements and examples of special projects here and submit your ideas here.
